From Retirement to Resin: The Story Behind Kallisae Arts and My First Big Exhibition

If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be standing at a Living North exhibition surrounded by my own art, I probably would have laughed and asked if you had the right person.

When I retired, I thought I was ready for slow mornings, cups of tea, and a gentler pace of life. But after a few months, something didn’t feel right. The quiet was nice… but I missed creating, connecting, doing.

Then, one rainy afternoon, I stumbled across resin art videos — and that was it. Down the resin hole I went! 💕

It started with a few small pieces on my dining room table, just me experimenting (and making a glorious mess). But there was something magical about the process — the way colour moves, merges, and transforms under resin. It reminded me that creativity isn’t something you retire from; it’s something that keeps you alive.

Before long, Life and Wendy — my little corner of creativity — began to grow into something bigger. I wanted a name that reflected this new chapter, something elegant and meaningful. That’s how Kallisae Arts was born — a space where travel meets art, and every piece carries a piece of the journey.

Next year, I’ll be back on the road in my motorhome, Nancy, with my two cocker spaniels by my side. 🐾 I’ll be travelling the UK, exploring new coastlines and countryside, and sharing how those places inspire my art.

But right now, I’m pinching myself as I prepare for my first big exhibition — Living North. Six months ago, I was still experimenting with colours. Now I’m showcasing my work alongside other talented artists and makers. It’s a dream come true, and a reminder that it’s never too late to start something new.

So here’s to second acts, spontaneous ideas, and following the spark that lights you up. ✨

If you’d like to see what I’ve been creating (and follow the next part of my journey), I’d love for you to visit my new website:
